Space Ranger Captain and Patroller Description:
Action Man, during the early 1980s, found themselves competing with a new breed of space themed toys, partly thanks to the release of Star Wars which took the Toy Market by storm. In an attempt to recapture the hearts and minds of children similar concepts were created with close resemblances to Star Wars concepts. The Space Ranger Captain and Space Ranger Patroller represented the forces of good. With laser-proof space tabbards made of a 'secret metallic compound', two piece space helmets 'with built in breathing apparatus', his sworn enemy was Captian Zargon and his Zargonite troops. With the later plastic gaunlets covering the functioning gripping hands, and helmets that stopped you operating his eagle-eyes, two of Action Man's unique selling points were rendered inoperable. A space Ranger Commando was also released with a red and dark blue theming and a Talking Space Ranger Commander also graced the line. A line of space vehicles (partly borrowed from other toy lines and customised) were devised to assist the Space Ranger's interplanetory adventures. These included the Planetary Patrol Vehicle, Solar Hurricane and Space Speeder

ACTION MAN SPACE RANGER CAPTAIN FIGURE: Figure, life support helmet, one piece rubberised spacesuit, gloves, tabbard, laser gun and holster, star card, Equipment Manual.
Notes:
The main differences between the Captain and the Patrollers were the colour of their helmets and the colours on their tabbards. The rubber version of the space suit, though novel in its construction, hardens and perishes with time and as a result few, if any, have survived. Later iterations used a light blue boilersuit with coloured elastic cuffs (see Patroller boxes below). Generally (although not always so) the early silver material gloves pair with the rubber spacesuit, and the white plastic oversized gloves and boots (first seen on the Six Million Dollar Man spacesuit) pair with the material boilersuits type spacesuits. The Space Ranger Captain most commonly had turquiose helmet and yellow tabbard (with 'C' logo) detailing, and the Patrollers most commonly had black helmets and red detailing to their tabbards (with space for number sticker in location of 'C' on the Captain's. There are examples of exceptions to these rules. A mixture appear to have come out of the Palitoy factory, one would assume when stocks ran out of one or other items. 'Identification Number' Stickers with foiled numbers were included to allow you to create your own team, and placement can vary from the intended front of tabbard depending on where the owner chose to locate them. The gun and holster were not always included with the Captain figure, indeed it is not mentioned on some of the box variations. And talking of boxes, the Space Ranger Captain is pictured on one version with the yellow tabbard, and on another with red. Confused?!
