SAS Underwater Attack Description:

The 1983 Action Man SAS Underwater Attack owes its roots to the successful conclusion of the London Iranian Embassy hostage crisis of 1980 by the 'Special Air Service' or SAS. The boxed set (figure not included) came with authentic looking underwater attack wetsuit and key equipment. The Action Man SAS Underwater Attack boxed figure was preceded by an SAS outfit and an Action Man boxed 'Key Figure'. A popular figure for obvious reasons and very of it's time. He complemented a mini-range which included SAS Beachhead attack, SAS Airstrike, SAS Parachute Attack and SAS Secret Mission.

Notes:

The Eagle Eye Action Man SAS Underwater Attack set was issued with a three piece wetsuit (black rubber hood, rubber zipped top and rubber bottoms). These are known to perish over time, and may be able to be preserved with silicone spray massaged in. The harness/vest held various pieces of equipment including yellow tipped black bolt cutters, grappling hook with yellow rope, plastic black woolly hat, two grenades and a rare yellow handled knife and rarer sheath. The air cylinders were black as were the later style flippers - the type with an open top section. Face mask was black as opposed to the yellow or orange of other underwater sets. The single SAS emblem badge (repros available from here) was to be affixed to the lower front of the harness as per the box art. The fantastic box art was illustrated by freelancer Dave Barnicle for Palitoy.
