Period: 50th Anniversary
Dates: Jan 2017 -
Cat No: AM00004
On 19 January 2017 a set similar in design to that of the original "[Navy] Frogman" is planned was released to further celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the launch of the basic Action Man Action Soldier of 1966 in the UK. This release re-establishes the Action Man brand once more in the UK. The Scuba Diver's equipment appears similar in design to the 'Navy Frogman' of the type issued for the very first Action Men. The new wet suit has a lighter weight than the original, or indeed 40th Anniversary sets, allowing free movement of the figure and has the concealed zipper reminiscent of the 1960s original. The material lightly smells of latex suggesting this material might be an ingredient. Most of the original composition rubber wet suits have disintegrated over time so this new figure should prove popular. Some other lessons have apparently been learned from the past - the orange dynamite sticks have new softer bendy fuses that resist breaking off. He has flock hair, and gripping hands and a hand-made body similar to the original Action Man action figures of the 1960s and 1970s. He comes in a quality window box that also doubles as a presentation box with underwater 3D diorama. He is produced by Art + Science International, the licence holders.

SCUBA DIVER (AM715): Action Man figure (brown flock), 3 piece wet suit (hood, top, bottoms), watch/depth gauge, mask, oxygen tanks, pair of fins, 3 x sticks of dynamite, knife, scabbard, colour Action Man booklet, dog tag.
The Action Man Frogman set was originally launched in 1966 as a set, or on equipment cards as part of the Action Sailor range. See Action Man Frogman. The new wetsuit is lighter than the original, and a little more generous of fit, which allows for a much easier dressing / undressing procedure - without talc or lubricant necessary. The zip is a stealth-grey anodised effect and is neatly concealed by two flaps. The tanks are a light solid grey with a chrome effect detail to the top (original had metallic silver plastic tanks with similar treatment to the top detail). The air pipes are of a much narrower gauge and have translucent plastic. Original ones are opaque orange and fatter. The booklet has AM00004 on the front cover.
